Divergent

The most compelling book we would like to recommend is called Divergent. We think it is a real page-turner.  The catchy storyline of Veronica Roth is a worldwide bestseller. It is a dystopian fiction; that means it set in the future, in the wake of a terrible war.

In this riveting book society consists of five factions called: Abnegation-the selfless; Dauntless- the brave; Erudite-the intelligent; Candor-the honest and Amity-the peaceful. Each faction has its own duties. At the age of sixteen you have to go through a so-called aptitude test, which finds out who you truly are. To test this, you get injected with a serum that causes a simulation in your head. Normally the test results show one faction, but there are also people whose test results are inconclusive: DIVERGENT

Being a Divergent is extremely dangerous and rare. Powerful people want to get rid of them, because they are said to be a threat to all the other factions. Divergents are immune to the serums, no one can control them against their will.

The main character is Beatrice Prior. She lives with her brother Caleb and her parents Andrew and Nathalie in an Abnegation house. She lives a selfless life, but she doesn’t feel like an Abngation, because she also cares about herself. The aptiudiude test showed her three possible factions: Abnegation, Dauntless and Erudite. The fact that she is sixteen and her inconclusive test results makes it even harder to choose the right faction.

Either she has to leave her family or start a new life in another faction?! But the most important thing for her is to hide that she is DIVERGENT.

Twilight

If you like fantasy love stories you have to read Twilight!

It is the first book of five volumes (so you will have enough to read for a long time) The other books are called:

New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn & Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. But the main story of Twilight is in the first four books.

The book tells you the story of the seventeen year old Bella who moves from her mother to her father called Charlie. Her father lives in a very small town called Forks. Forks is a town where it rains almost every day. In the beginning Bella hates Forks, because hates rain, but on the first day of school she meets somebody called…

…Edward. Edward is the most beautiful person Bella has ever seen. When they get to know each other better, they immediately fall in love. But is he really a human?

He looks indescribably good, he’s indescribably fast, indescribably strong and he behaves as if he came from another time. But this love is more dangerous than she thought and there begins a fight with love, life and death.

Edward is a Vampire. But Bella doesn’t care what he is, she is unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him. But Edward is not the main danger because he only drinks the blood of animals. There are other Vampires in town, who are much more dangerous than Edward.

James the tracker wants Bella’s blood. Trackers hunt their prey till they catch it. For James this is the most exciting hunt he has ever had, because the Cullens, Edward’s family protect Bella like a real family member…

This fantastic book was written by Stephenie Mayer. She was born on the * 24 of December 1973 in Hartford, Connecticut.

And if you want to know if James the tracker catches Bella you have to read this thick, really good Book!

The Weed that Stings the Hangman’s Bag

The bestselling author, Alan Bradley, has written this and the other five ,,Flavia de Luce Mysteries” with British humor. If you like mysterious and exciting detective books, then this book is exactly the right thing for you. This book is the greatest of all! I recommend it to people that are 14+.

We give the book 5 from 5 stars: *****

The book is about eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce. From the outside she looks small, breakable and weak. But she is actually very strong, disciplined and self-reliant. She lives in the idyllic but gloomy village Bishop’s Lacey in the year 1950. Her mother, Harriet, died in an accident many years ago. Her two sisters, Ophelia and Daphne, are the two meanest tied_up_with_strings_largegirls in the world. This makes Flavia’s life hard. To escape from daily life she always flees into the old chemistry lab in her house, because chemistry is her passion.

Thirty years ago a boy, called Robin Ingleby lived in the same village. He was  the same age as Flavia. One day he went to play in the forest but didn’t come back. His mother went into the woods and looked anxiously for him. But finally she found him…..hanged….. Everyone in Bishop’s Lacey thinks that it was suicide, but Flavia didn’t believe this version. Why would he have killed himself???

In the book a puppeteer, called Rupert Porson and his assistant Nialla come to Bishop’s Lacey to perform a show. Rupert Porson is one of the most brilliant and famous puppeteers in the world. At his show the people recognize one of the puppets as the boy, Robin. Everyone is shocked. All of a sudden Rupert dies at the show. Bishop’s Lacey’s citizens think that it was an accident. But again, Flavia is of another opinion. She thinks that the two deaths are somehow related. But how?

Is Flavia right?

City of Bones

CITY OF BONES

The mortal instruments was written by Cassandra Clare published by walker books.

City of Bones is about Clary Frey, who finds out about a new world.  The Shadowhunters. Her best friend Simon is turning into a vampire, she notice that she doesn´t knows anything about her family and she gets a boyfriend who has a relationship with her, for short: her whole world gets crazy. But there are even more secrets about her, that even she doesn´t knows. She joins the shadowhunters and has to deal with crazy warlocks, bloody vampires and her family.

More about Shadowhunters:

They have angelic blood and human blood (note from the author: that´s very sad) Shadowhunters, also called Nephilins, fight against downworlders, demons and  half-blooded monsters. They have special weapons and healing materials. Mortals (normal humans) don´t see them if the don´t want to get seen. With the steal (like a wand) they burn marks in form of tattoos into their skin to have extra powers, like faster running or healing.

Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Have you ever heard about Harry Potter? Probably yes, but if you have only heard about it you should really start reading one of the books of this amazing series. So why do I recommend this book so convincingly to you? Harry Potter is a fantasy novel and this special edition is probably one of the most fascinating books I have ever read.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of the Secrets is my absolute favourite one. It got my attention right from the beginning and I could hardly stop reading. It is about wizardry and about friendship. The story also shows some aspects of racism: the magicians don’t accept the muggles because they think they’re all disloyal and bad-natured. They come to this judgement even though they don’t really know them. Just because the muggles are different that doesn’t mean that they are evil. This is exactly what happens in real life, too.

The Harry Potter novels were all written by the same author, named J.K Rowling, who has become famous all over the world with this series. She had her breakthrough with her first Harry Potter book and her books are bestsellers world-wide.

I also saw the movie, but I liked he book better, because you can let your fantasy work and imagine it the way you want it to be. This author also has an incredibly convincing way of expressing the characters’ feelings and describing the situations they are in.

Repeating myself, I can only advise you to read this book yourself. I am convinced that you will like it just as much as I did.

WONDER

The book is about a 10 year old boy named Augustin Pullman. He is acctually a normal boy but he has a problem. His face is nothing like other faces. This makes Augustin’s life very hard because noone will accept him the way he looks and wont want to know him and how he really is. The book is mainly about that to his 10th birthday his parents decide that they can’t teach him anymore at home and send him to middle-school so he can live a normal life like other kids of his age. Augustin is scared and doesn’t want to go. We liked the book very much and we think that every age could read it and enjoy.
