The Invention of Wings

The Invention of Wings

I came to read this amazingly well-written book in the last few days and I want you to know that I was overwhelmed! I totally recommend it to you and trust me you won’t be disappointed.

The first thing that I think makes the book so amazing, is the way the story of two girls with a completely different background, is presented. Well, you have to consider that the story is set in the 19th century, so that’s the second thing that I think is so well described. I perfectly could imagine and understand how the people lived back then, it was like travelling back in the past. Apparently, this book is written in the view of two girls so the book has two main characters. Another aspect I want to mention, that I found very appealing, is that throughout the book the whole life story of these two girls is described. It feels like you can almost watch them grow up from a young age on. Continue reading

All the Bright Places – Heart-breaking story

Theodor Finch thinks about death a lot. Suicidal thoughts are a dime a dozen in his life. He doesn’t have an easy life because he has a very bad relationship with his family. It’s hard for him to control his feelings and actions but he is very talented in calming down others. However, in school he is seen as a freak and he is far from popular.

Violet is equally important in the book. Finch and Violet are the main characters and the only ones you get to know better. Violet had a normal life until her sister has passed away in a car accident Since her sister’s death she doesn’t like to talk about her past but not only that. She is not able to ride in a car anymore, nor write entries for the blog she and her sister created and she generally takes her sister’s death as an excuse for everything.

When Violet and Finch meet at the ledge of the school’s belltower and they are both about to jump it’s unclear who saves whom from jumping off…The two of them team up for a class project about “natural wonders” in their state of Indiana. They start to “wonder”, as they like to call it. They visit a few places and enjoy to spend time with each other. You can then read how their relationship builds up…

The Killing

“The Killing” is one of Robert Muchamore`s bestselling novels. It is really great and I can really recommend it.

The story is about a teenage boy called James Adams. His mom died, so he was sent to an organisation called CHERUB where kids and teenagers are tought to be agents. All those children live on campus (the headquaters of CHERUB). One day James freaks out and beats up another child. As a consequence he gets punished by the teachers and has to clean the staffrooms for at least a month. But a very generous mission controller sends him on  a mission to London.
